Electronic Waste (E-Waste)
As of January 1, 2012, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency imposed the Electronic Products Recycling & Reuse Act (Public Act 97-0287) that bans the disposal electronics in landfills. The Act also requires manufacturers to participate in the management of discarded electronics.
Those banned electronics devices included but are not limited to; televisions, monitors, printers, computers, keyboards, fax machines, VCRs, portable digital music players, video game consoles, servers, scanners, mice, digital converter boxes, cable/satellite receivers, digital video disc recorders, cell phones, PDAs, computer cables, and zip drives.
For more information on this Act, please visit the IEPA’s website by clicking here.
See the list below for local area E-Waste drop off locations by county. As some drop off locations require an appointment, we recommend that you contact the specific location prior to making your drop off. If you find that one of these locations is no longer accepting E-Waste, please tell us so we can remove it from the list. We greatly appreciate your help in keeping this list up to date. This list was updated as of July 15, 2016.
